JOHNSTOWN, Pa. —

Lockheed Martin, a major national defense contractor said Wednesday it is closing one of its buildings in Cambria County.  The move will send 78 employees to a company location in Maryland.

A representative with Lockheed Martin told 6 News it comes as a cost-saving measure.

Lockheed Martin sits tucked away in Johnstown's industrial park and has three buildings total.   The company said one building will be closing its doors by Aug. 31.

Johnstown Area Regional Industries president Linda Thomson said she's "very saddened to hear about this particular facility closing along with a lot of companies who rely on federal funding, what they spend and how they're going to keep competitive in the new environment that we're in."

The corporation, known mostly for its aeronautics production,  said it will move mostly administrative personnel that work within the global supply chain services.

Lockheed said it is simply allowing its lease to expire and that it's a move that's expected to save more than $1.5 million annually.

Lockheed Martin will maintain 344 of its production employees based in Cambria County.
