Logan Township Fire Companies Defend Purchase of New Fire Trucks

Blair County —

After days of accusations of fraud and mismanagement by one man against the Logan Township fire companies, the president of the fire association, Jeff Blake, fired back at the accuser at a press conference Tuesday.

"To offer assurances both publicly and on record that each of the five organizations which absolutely depend on voluntary and municipal contributions manages those funds appropriately and in a manner to assure that we are able to meet the emergency needs of the citizens that we serve," Blake said.

The man, who was identified as Mr. Hoover during the press conference, has accused the fire companies of fraudulently purchasing two new trucks and he took his complaint to the Logan Township Board of Supervisors.

Blake denies any wrong doing.

"Now the public should know that very soon the new pieces of fire apparatus purchased for Greenwood and purchased for Newburg will be arriving and that those individual fire departments will fund the very expensive equipment to be placed on those new trucks," he said.

He added that the purchases are part of a larger strategic plan for updating equipment to protect the public.

Responding to Mr. Hoover's request for an investigation into the fire companies' finances, Blake said he "welcomes any credible investigative agency to review our financial records."
