After 19 consecutive terms as representative for the Pennsylvania House, Camille "Bud" George is retired. 

George, the only remaining World War II veteran in the house announced his retirement earlier this year. 

6 News sat down with George on his last day as representative to reflect on the last 38 years.

"All at once, it's just over," George said. 

Emotions were running high at George's home in Houtzdale on Friday as he reached the final day as representative for the 74th District.

"I have a lot to be grateful for. I really like to think that I have been blessed highly and greatly by the good things that have happened to me," he said. 

George will celebrate his 85th birthday on Dec. 23. Many people wonder how was he able to stay at it for so long. 

"I'm a guy that likes to live with hope in my mind. Through the years, when that hope is geared toward helping others it is just that much more important to you," he said. 

George admits hope isn't the only thing that helped get him through the 38 years. He also credits his best friend, and wife of 60 years, Edna. 

"She has been the greatest thing that God could have given me, and that is no lie," he said. 

"You couldn't believe how proud I am of him. When I married him he was running a bulldozer and now to see all that he has done today - it just makes my heart fill up, I am so proud of him," Edna George said. 

In his 38 years, George said he has helped steer more than $200 million in public money to Clearfield County. Some of those projects include the state prison and the $270 million ethanol plant in Clearfield. 

"I am very fortunate that these governors that have helped me have all liked me and had done these things," George said.

George admits it will be different being at home everyday, but he is sure Edna will keep him busy. 

"I won't be asking him 'honey do this,' because honey do this doesn't do this," she said. 

"So here it is. I am going to be starting off anew. But again, I am grateful for everything that has happened to me," he said. 

George said he will continue serving as mayor of Houtzdale once he is retired.
