Longtime state rep. reacts to 74th district results

By Brittany Boyer

CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa. —

For the last 38 years the 74th District seat in Clearfield County has been held by Camille "Bud" George.

In a few weeks George will retire from his position.

George is the only remaining World War II veteran serving a term in the Pennsylvania House.

He is also one of the longest serving representatives in Pennsylvania state history.

George, a lifetime democrat will retire December 1, and his seat will be turned over to republican Tommy Sankey.

Sankey won the 74th District seat Tuesday night after receiving 61 percent of the vote.

Sankey's opponent, Mark McCracken received 39 percent of the vote.

"I wish that some of the endeavors that he has insisted he will take over, he finds a lot of success," said George.

Sankey told 6 News when he gets into office one of the first things he plans to tackle is the unemployment in the area.

"The unemployment is terrible. The lack of upper-mobility.  The family sustaining jobs aren't here," Sankey said.

George admits he is sad to be retiring, but hopes Sankey will be a great leader for his longtime constituents.

"Maybe they won't want to admit to it, but I believe if they do just part of what we accomplished, they would be doing a pretty good job," said George.
