Man, 73, Found Dead In Dilapidated Johnstown Home

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. —

A 73-year-old man was found dead in his Bedford Street home in Johnstown, and when crews responded they found even more problems.

Police told WJAC-TV fire crews had to take the man out of a second-floor window because of all of the garbage in the house.

The man's sister found him Tuesday, but officials with the county coroner's office said he'd been there for more than a week. The coroner said the man died of natural causes.

In the meantime, Johnstown police had to walk through the home in Hazmat suits. Police said the home was filled with garbage from floor to ceiling, with only a path to walk through the home.

Officials said the structure itself isn't safe and there's a home next door. Code enforcement officers were called in and immediately condemned the home, calling it dangerous and putting it on the city's demolition list.
