Man Charged With Stalking 9-Year-Old Boy

A Cambria County man was arrested after accusations he stalked a 9-year-old boy, Johnstown police said Friday.

Jay Lape, 29, of Mehoher Boulevard, Westmont, faces two charges of harassment and stalking.

According to a police report, the boy's mother told police on Wednesday that Lape was writing disturbing letters to the boy and his mother.

She also told police she saw Lape using a camera to tape her son and said Lape walked into their home uninvited to get closer to the boy.

Sources also told Channel 6 News that Lape followed the boy into Westside Elementary School and asked the staff questions about his whereabouts.

Jay's mother, Dorothy Lape, said her son is mentally challenged and he didn't understand what he was doing was wrong.

Lape remains free on $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 5 for a preliminary hearing.
