Man Honored For Saving Handicapped Woman From Fire

A Jefferson County man who rescued a wheelchair-bound woman from her burning kitchen was honored Thursday.

Charles Hetrick, 54, of Brookville, entered Martha Rich's burning mobile home on Feb. 23. He crawled across the floor of the living room and brought Rich to the front door, saving her life.

Hetrick was on of 16 people from across the country honored by the Pittsburgh-based Carnegie Hero Fund Commission.

He received a bronze medal and $4,000 in cash.
