Man Killed In Centre County Farm Accident

MARION TWP., Pa. —

One man died and another was rescued after a farm accident Tuesday afternoon in Centre County.

Charles Simons and another man were working inside a 120-foot corn silo Tuesday at the Weight Farm. Simons had worked on the farm for close to 20 years, and for an unknown reason fell while inside the silo.

Simons died 40 feet up in the silo, police said. Specialized rescue crews and firefighters were called in. Part of the problem crews faced was that silos can often be full of poisonous fumes. That was not the case here though, and rescuers were able to go in through the top of the silo.

An autopsy is expected to be done Wednesday to determine how Simons died.

The other man, whose name was not released, was pulled out with no apparent injuries.
