Gary Martin, 45, was killed while landscaping his property in Marion Center.
Officials said Martin lost control of a small front-end loader he was using to move stone. He apparently fell out of his seat and became pinned between the vehicle's bucket and chassis.
The coroner said a safety device designed to turn the machine off in an emergency did not work.
