Man Pleads Guilty To Shooting 5-Year-Old Boy

Cambria County —

A Conemaugh Township man faces up to 7 1/2 years in prison after pleading guilty to firing the shot which struck a 5-year-old boy.

Larry Lampel Jr. said he was shooting at chipmunks by his home when a stray bullet struck the child, Jason Masiello, in the arm during a June 24 soccer tournament.

Masiello did make a complete physical recovery.

Lampel pleaded guilty to multiple counts, including hurting someone with a deadly weapon and recklessly shooting in the direction of a crowd of people. He also pled guilty to game law violations including shooting at animals with a semi-automatic pistol.

According to Somerset County District Attorney Jerry Spangler, Lampel broke the law because it wasn't chipmunk season and he shot across a highway.

Lampel could be fined up to $20,700. He is scheduled to be sentenced in February.
