Managers Now Stationed At Toll Booths On The Turnpike

Bedford —

The free ride is over. Toll Booths on the PA Turnpike are being manned by managers who will collect a flat rate of $2 for cars and $15 for trucks. Turnpike Officials say if the turnpike starts to show a loss compared to last year's revenues, rates could be increased. If manpower runs short, tolls in central PA may go unattended and waive the fee altogether. Brimmeier says State Troopers will be stationed at every Turnpike Interchange. State Police say more troopers are being put on patrol now that workers have walked. Some Barricks have canceled troopers' planned vacations to make sure they're staffed. Officials say they're working on a strike contingency schedule, but scheduling is up to individual Barricks, and there are no across the board shifts or schedules.
