Many Local Students Welcome In New School Year

Spiral-bound notebooks, No. 2 pencils and yellow buses can only mean one thing in the Alleghenies: school is back in session.

Many students headed back to the classroom on Monday, and most other districts either begin later this week or after Labor Day.

At Eagle View Elementary in the Somerset area, students were excited about what they hope to accomplish this year.

From making new friends, bringing grades up, learning to be a better artist and having fun, children said they had many goals.

"(There's) lots of anticipation," said Martha Vukela, a teacher at the school. "I have a lot of new kids in my class and I'm excited to get to know them."

Nearly every parent said they're ecstatic their kids are back to school.
