Many Residents Worried About Roof Collapses Due To Heavy Snow

As the region braces for another snowstorm, concern is shifting from where to put the snow on the ground to how to get it off roofs.

This weekend three roofs collapsed in the region. In the Pittsburgh area, the owner of the Rostraver Ice Garden skating rink blamed excessive snow for a roof collapse.

In Cambria County, it would be weeks before Won-Ton Restaurant reopens because of its roof collapse.

The CVS Pharmacy Distribution Center in Somerset County suffered some roof damage and employees did not go to work Sunday night or Monday.

Heavy snow is also affecting many homes in the area. Mihalko's Contracting workers said they have been bombarded with phone calls from people worried about their roofs caving in.

Crews said the average roof can hold about 3 feet of snow, but more snow expected through Tuesday.

Another thing people need to look out for is icicles. Officials said not only can they cause flooding, but they can also cause serious injury if they fall.
