Medicare Payment Cuts Coming

Johnstown —

Officials at the U.P.M.C. Cancer Center say they could see reductions between 10% and 30%. That means, worst case scenario, doctors could lose 1 million dollars a year. That could force some clinics to close. And yes, there could be cuts in services at the Murtha Cancer Center in downtown Johnstown. This would also mean changes for patients.

Thomas Pyo, with U.P.M.C. Cancer Center, tells Channel 6 News, "Having all your care done in one building, you may have to move back into hospital settings to get that type of care. Or even worse yet, possibly travel to larger metropolitan areas to get your care."

It's unknown when the cuts will happen. Medical officials are trying to talk with congress before it does.
