Memorial Service Marks Anniversary Of 1889 Flood

Related

Thursday marked the anniversary of the 1889 Johnstown flood.

In remembrance of those who lost their lives in the flood, 2,209 luminaries will be lit at the National Memorial at 7:30 p.m.

The flooding started after a dam burst at the South Fork Hunt Club, sending a cascade of water down into and through the city of Johnstown.

Other special activities marking the 118th anniversary of the flood include free admission to the Johnstown Flood Museum, the South Fork Fishing and Hunting Club, and the Flood National Memorial in St. Michael.
