Memorial wall to be unveiled Saturday to honor veterans

By Brittany Boyer

BROCKWAY, Pa. —

After more than a year of planning there is now a new addition to the Veterans Memorial Point Park in Jefferson County.

In 2005, American Legion Post 95 in Brockway began creating the park for veterans to enjoy.

Within the past few years members of Post 95 have been able to add a number of items at the park to honor men and women who have served for our country.

"Our attitude here is if anyone was willing to put a uniform on and serve their country, then they deserve to be honored," said World War II veteran, Bob Stowman.

The newest addition to the park will be unveiled on Saturday.

Organizers said it will be called the Wall of Honor.

Stones with the names of 400 veterans will be seen along the two walls leading up to the Circle of Remembrance.

"There's not many of us left.  The numbers are dwindling quickly, but I take a lot of pride in the fact that I've been a part of the committee and we've been able to accomplish this," said Stowman.

For Jack Tully, a member of Post 95 and a veteran himself, he said the wall hits close to home for him and his family.

"My son Michael was killed in 2007 in Iraq. It sort of inspires me to do this maybe more than I would had I not lost him," said Tully.

Despite all of the hard work that has gone into getting to now, Tully said it was all worth it.

"The support has been more than adequate for our needs. We plan for next year to expand the wall, we've already seen some interest in that," Tully said.

The Wall of Honor will be unveiled at the American Legion in Brockway at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
