Mock Accident Illustrates Safe Lesson

JOHNSTOWN —

It's an all too familiar scenario: End-of-the-school-year activities turn tragic due to drinking and driving.

Now, with spring upon us, many communities are taking steps to remind high school students about the consequences of that deadly mixture.

A mock accident demonstration was held Tuesday to illustrate that point.

"With prom season coming around and graduation around the corner, a lot of parties will be happening and people just go out and think they're invincible. It shows them the reality of what could happen," said Matthew Patrick, coordinator of the demonstration.

Students themselves performed the rescue and safety procedures.

The mock accident demonstration was held at the Greater Johnstown Career and Technology Center. Vo-Tech's Protective Services sponsored the event in cooperation with Richland Township Fire Department and East Hills Ambulance.
