Mother Nature Lashes Out

Emergency Crews Prepare For The Worst

Cambria County —

When temperatures go down, emergency crews say the number of accidents go up. Temperatures are expected to reach single digits over the next few weeks. As a result, many people try to cut corners and save on their gas and electrical bills. However, emergency crews say that chance could end up doing more harm than good. The Johnstown Fire Department is ready for winter weather and encourages people to be safe when it comes to staying warm. Johnstown Fire Captain Joseph Moehler says "If you want to use a kerosene or electric heater, make sure they have plenty of room." Moehler also says keep a close eye on water pipes. To prevent freezing, Moehler says its best to leave your water trickle on extremely cold nights and never use a blow torch thaw the pipes.
