Natural Gas Company Educates Jeff. Co

By Rich Wisniewski

BROOKVILLE, Pa —

A natural gas company made it's pitch that natural gas could be a benefit to the area.

"There's about a $1.50-$1.75 price difference between natural gas and gasoline," said Geoffrey Bristow, with the Pennsylvania Department of Enviornmental Protection.

When you hear about possible gas prices under two dollars a gallon, it seems like natural gas has a lot of potential for our region. On Friday, in Jefferson County, local leaders heard about the positives of natural gas cars.

"It's here, it's available, its using Pennsylvania natural gas, which is an abundent local resource," said Heather Beatty, from CNG Fuel Systems. Who adds, that one of the benefits is lower fuel prices, and also boost the local economy.

"It will create new jobs as far as the gas stations go, as far as the vehicle conversions and up fitters," Beatty said.

Opponents argue that drilling for natural gas could harm the enviornment and also cause potential harm to well water in the communities that drilling would take place. However, members of the Department of Enviornmental Protection (DEP) say that the air quality will be much better.

"the emissions from the tailpipe, burning natural gas -instead of oil, gasoline or diesel is much cleaner," said Bristow, with DEP.
