Natural Snow Covers Tussey Mountain for Opening Weekend

By Stef Davis

BOALSBURG, Pa

Forget cabin fever...these folks are saying bye-bye to the winter blues and hitting the slopes at Tussey Mountain. Its opening weekend here in Centre County and the place is packed.

Ashley Thomas, 11 years old, says, "Well we wanted to come out and ski. We started at the bunny slope because we haven't been out in a while. Then we went to deer run and that’s what we've been doing."

Ashley and her friends are in luck because employees here at Tussey Mountain say this year's opening weekend is one of the best yet...and it’s all thanks to the snowfall we had earlier in the week.

Aaron Weyman, Tussey Mountain, says, "This is a stark contrast to last year. Last year, we used our snow machines all the time and this year all of our trails are open on opening weekend and i don't remember the last time that’s happened."

And the pros on the slopes know the ropes. They've been waiting for the perfect powder to maneuver down the mountain.

Justin Johnson, first time at Tussey Mountain, says, "We've been keeping an eye on the website to check for conditions. We saw the snow was good so we decided to come out--New Year’s Eve, long weekend so we decided to come out and hit it."

Tony Zaccaria, State College, says, "Oh for the first ski weekend? This is great. Last year, I didn't ski much at all, probably because it was so warm."

And folks here at Tussey Mountain hope these snowy conditions last because they want to remain open well into the spring.
