Neighbor sees smoke, saves home from more damage

By Melanie Gillespie

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. —

A home was possibly saved from much more damage thanks to the watchful eye of its neighbors.

Fire crews were called to this house on Benchmark Lane in Westmont just after noon Saturday.

The fire chief said a pellet furnace malfunctioned and caused flames to spark.

Much of the damage was from the smoke.

The family was not home at the time.
