Neighbors concerned about rise in South Fork crime

"They spot the place, they watch it for awhile then they get used to the way you come and go and they hit," Convenience store owner Ray Fedwards said.

Business owners and people living in South Fork say they are worried about crime in their community now that the only two police officers are resigning.

"I don’t think it is getting any better because the manpower is not there and they need to have eyes and ears and the people cannot do it themselves they need someone to go up to," James Moss said.

State police are taking over patrols, but that wasn’t enough to prevent two incidents overnight.

There was an attempted burglary at Valcos Grocery store and then right across the street the United Methodist church was burglarized, all in the same night.

Burglars took about 75 dollars from the church and left behind about 300 dollars in damage. Although, no one was able to break into the grocery store .

"We expect it to get worse," Fedwards said.

Ray Fedward’s convenience store was burglarized the day before thanksgiving, before the officers resigned. Now that there are zero officers, he said he is worried crime will spike.

"Everyone is concerned, everyone is watching, but they are slick, we will get them," Fedward’s said.
