Neighbors Feel Fire Victims Were Targeted

Cambria County —

Neighbors say they've had many sleepless nights recently. This house fire is the second fire at this property in a little more than two days. Late Saturday night, firefighters were called to the home when bushes in the front yard were on fire.

Flames ate away the house in Upper Yoder Township. Too afraid to talk on camera, neighbors fear the husband and wife who own the house are being targeted, but don't know why. The family moved in just over a year ago and since then, police have been called out to investigate several incidents.

Neighbors are concerned.

"Some of the things we thought were pranks with kids. We're still investigating. We're not sure exactly what's causing or who's causing," says Upper Yoder Township Police Chief Dan Zakraysek.

Just last week, the victimized couple had to again re-paint a white fence around their yard because vandals painted graffiti on it for the second or third time.

"We are under an investigation. We had officers in the area for the past several weeks doing surveillance, being in or out at different times," says Chief Zakraysek.

Then, Saturday night the bushes burned up and Monday night the house caught fire while the homeowner was asleep on the couch. She woke up to smoke alarm.

Upper Yoder Fire Chief Greg Town says it is unknown at this time if the bush fire and house fire are related.

A state police fire marshal is expected to begin his investigation Tuesday. While they won't talk about a cause, Upper Yoder Police will have an officer on site to guard what they're calling a crime scene.

In regards to Saturday night's bush fire, police are looking for someone they believe was around the home Saturday night. But again, they aren't saying if any of these incidents are related or how the fires started.
