New Details Released In Deadly Plane Crash

JOHNSTOWN, Pa —

New details were expected Wednesday involving a plane crash in Johnstown.

According to officials, the plane was originally headed to New Jersey from Morgantown, W. Va.

The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration were at the scene Tuesday night, but did not begin investigating until early Wednesday morning. Cambria County Coroner Dennis Kwiatkowski told Channel 6 News two women, a pilot and a nurse, were killed when the Cessna 414 went down around 4 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

Their names were released late Wednesday morning. They are nurse Diane Efaw, of Morgantown, W. Va. and pilot Maureen McGee, of Masontown, W. Va.

The two were coming from a West Virginia hospital toward New Jersey to pick up a patient when investigators said the pilot reported mechanical problems while in the air and was diverted to the airport to make an emergency landing.

An eyewitness told Channel 6 the plane flew very low, nosedived and then exploded.
