Giant Eagle officials said they still have to get the green light from the Upper Yoder Township zoning board, but many residents said they are very excited about the prospect.
Virgil Faust said he goes to Richland to get gas now.
"It will be convenient for us to have a gas station here. We were wondering why they didn't do this long ago," Faust said.
Faust isn't alone. Many people who work and live near the Giant Eagle in Upper Yoder said they drive to Richland, Somerset or even Ligonier to use their gas points. So, the possibility of slashing that drive time to save money is welcome news.
"I think it's wonderful. It would be great," said Alice Krivac, of Johnstown.
Giant Eagle just submitted its plans this month and the company is already getting the ball rolling. As of Wednesday, the Get-Go will be built in the corner of the parking lot. That plan, however, seems to be raising concerns when it comes to parking spaces and drivers pulling out on to Goucher Street.
It would create "too much traffic. It would make it more worse than what it is," said Tracy Walker, also of Johnstown.
A zoning board hearing is set for March 30 at 7 p.m. at the township office and will be open to the public.
