New Jobs In Somerset In Jeopardy

Somerset County —

Fleetwood Folding Trailers were expecting more business after one company site closed in Maryland. But now, business is slow for Fleetwood Folding Trailers. Instead of adding more jobs, like the company planned to, they've laid off workers. 10% of their non-union workforce is now without a job. That's 11 people out of 550 employees. Their corporate office in California is looking at the market demand for the travel trailers they make. So far, demand is down and higher gas prices are part of the blame. The decision to bring more business from Maryland is now on hold and in question. So are the hundred of jobs it would bring. After the layoffs the company has had this week, Fleetwood officials talked about the future of the company and it's employees.

Fleetwood General Manager, John Green, said, "My one agenda when I took over this job is to save the jobs of the 450 associates on the factory floor. I think the future is pretty bright."

The company should know by May if it will get the travel trailer line and the hundreds of jobs that would come with it.
