New Law Impacts Truck Drivers

Clearfield County —

It's called the Motor Carrier Safety Improvement Act and officials hope it will increase safety on the highway. The act, which targets drivers with Commercial Driver's Licenses (or CDLs), tightens up sanctions for violations, increases fines, and provides for the permanent disqualification for a license, if a driver has two major traffic offenses.

Drivers we spoke to today say they agree with the intent of the law, taking negligent drivers with a track record of unsafe habits off of the road, but they say they don't think it will result in an overall increase in highway safety. For that, they say, drivers of cars need more education on how to safely share the highway with large, heavy tractor trailers.
