New Parishioners Meet Priest For Resurrection Roman Catholic Church

WEST TAYLOR TWP, Pa. —

In less than a month, the merger of five Catholic churches in Cambria City will be under way.

Sunday, about 300 potential parishioners showed up for a picnic at the St. Rochus Picnic Grove to meet the Resurrection Roman Catholic Church's new priest, the Rev. Alan Thomas.

Thomas comes from the Huntingdon area but has ties to Cambria City.

Immaculate Conception, St. Cashmire, St. Emrich, St. Columba, St. Rochus and St. Stephens will all merge July 22.

Tony DeGol, diocese spokesman, said he's received pre-registration from more than 1,500 members.

The Resurrection Roman Catholic Church will take over St. Stephens. St. Rochus will remain open as a recreation hall.
