WASHINGTON —

A new report confirms that some college majors pay off more than others.

The report from the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce looked at what people make over their entire career. It found the potential earning difference between one major and another can be more than 300 percent.

Researchers used U.S. Census data to connect the dots between college majors and career earnings. They determined the lifetime advantage ranges from $1,090,000 for engineering majors to $241,000 for education majors.

The report also found that majors are high segregated by race/ethnicity and gender. White men are concentrated in the high-earning majors and women tend to be concentrated in the lowest-earning majors.
