New website aims to engage residents to discuss issues, ideas

By Brittany Boyer

RIDGWAY, Pa. —

A new website was recently created to engage area residents to discuss ideas for the local area.

The website was launched by the North Central Regional Planning and Development Commission.

Eric Bridges, executive director, told 6 News the website is an online discussion forum where people can discuss local issues and ideas right at home.

"We thought well there is an increase in interest in social media applications so why not try to take advantage of the internet," Bridges said.

The website gives you the chance to provide input on transportation budgeting, economic policies and workforce and manufacturing to name a few.

Regional Developers are also looking for residents to share their "big ideas".

Bridges believes this will be an outlet for those who may not come out to meetings and prefer sharing ideas online.

"The town hall forums the intermittent public meetings we had scheduled...that's not always conducive because of the size of our region. People are busy, they don't have time to come to these conversations or meetings. We wanted to provide an opportunity for people to get engaged where it was more convenient for them," he said.

Bridges said his organization is open to hearing any new ideas. He said one they're looking for the most feedback on is transportation.

"Transportation especially in Pennsylvania, transportation and infrastructure investments, those are big key big topics of concern and interest," he said.

Bridges said he and his co-workers are hoping the site is an outlet for younger adults to engage in conversation. He believes that by adding this resource on the internet, they will get more feedback rather than just hearing from a select few at scheduled meetings.

"It's important for us as a regional organization to have an understanding and appreciation and to be aware of what the publics perspectives and ideas are with major issues that affect them," he said.
