Numbers must be displayed on homes, businesses or risked being fined

By Brittany Boyer

DUBOIS, Pa. —

The city of DuBois is cracking down on an ordinance that officials said has been "swept under the rug" for quite some time.

DuBois city manager, Herm Suplizio said that every structure within the city is required to have a number that is visible from the street.

Suplizio admits that many have forgotten about the ordinance, but they are continuing to enforce it.

Summer interns for the city of DuBois have been going throughout town noting which structures have proper numbering and which do not.

One intern told 6 News that they have stopped at about 3800 homes.

The intern said that between 55 and 60 percent of structures and homes that they have observed did not have proper numbering.

Suplizio said it's not just structures with improper numbering, but some do not have numbers at all.

Officials said a number of structures they have found with improper numbering are downtown.

Suplizio said that those without proper numbering will be sent letters.

He said residents would be given a few weeks to make changes.

Suplizio said that numbering must be numeric, it must be four inches tall and it must be visible from the street.

Anyone who does not make these changes can be fined up to $600.
