JOHNSTOWN, Pa. —

One person has died, another is in custody and state police are investigating after a triple shooting in Johnstown in which police officers were involved.

In a news release from Pennsylvania State Police, officials described the incident as "an officer-involved shooting that involved several members of the Johnstown Police Department earlier this morning."

The shooting happened around 12:30 a.m. on Sheridan Street at Edders Den, which is near the Oakhurst Homes.

Police said multiple rounds were fired. Three people were sent to a hospital, where one died while in surgery.

Officials said one suspect is in custody. Police did not immediately release the name of the suspect or the victims, but a news conference is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the PSP Ebensburg barracks.

Members of the Pennsylvania State Police, the Johnstown Police Department, the Cambria County District Attorney's Office and the Cambria County Coroner's Office are expected to attend the news conference.

Residents in the area told 6 News described the hectic situation they heard and saw.

"I heard gunshots," Jeffrey Clay said. "The first time around I heard one, then five or 10 minutes later I heard three more go off."

Joseph Wagner said, "(There were) cops  running all over the place, the ambulance came taking people out in stretchers and stuff. … I seen the cop cars had surrounded the white car. There were doors open and a couple seconds later, we heard a bunch of gunshots go off and seen the white car bump into the cop cars."

Police had not released a motive as of noon. In a news release, Pennsylvania State Police asked anyone who may have information about the incident to call the Ebensburg Barracks at 814-471-6500.
