Officials present plan to combine postal service centers

By WJAC Web Staff

ALTOONA —

Postal officials claim Altoona's mail processing and distribution facility isn't being used to its full capacity, and that's why they're considering consolidating its operations in Johnstown.

They outlined their plan for residents and postal employees Thursday night, pointing out similar cuts are being examined across the country to save money.

Postal workers in Altoona say the plan will come at a cost to them.

David Spielvogel said, "We're gonna lose eight jobs at the beginning, At least eight jobs when they take that mail and this is the first step to closing the Altoona plant which would cost us 110 jobs over all."

Approximately 60 to70 people, some wearing save our postal service T-shirts, turned out for the meeting rallying in support of the Altoona center.
