Officials Push Contractors To Complete Dam Upgrades

RIDGWAY, Pa. —

Contractors in Elk County are scrambling to finish mandated safety upgrades to an aging dam in Ridgway.

Environmental Manager Paul McCurdy told WJAC-TV he raised concerns with council members after the project fell behind schedule.

"I was getting frustrated and nervous that we weren't progressing more quickly," said McCurdy. "Things would've gone quicker if our concrete subcontractor would have had more people here right along?"

Engineers selected special bonding agents and have called in special equipment to help set concrete in colder weather that is expected in the coming weeks.

McCurdy said the bulk of the project is expected to wrap up by the end of November.
