Officials Stress Forest Fire Dangers

WOODWARD TOWNSHIP, Pa. —

Fire crews from across Clearfield County were at the scene of a brush fire Tuesday.

It happened just outside Houtzdale in Woodward Township. The fire started around 2 p.m.

Officials said the fire was brought under control within a few hours. Eight to 10 acres of land was damaged by the flames.

Meanwhile, forestry officials are cautioning residents that the risk of brush and forest fires remains high.

They said anytime dry leaves can blow in the wind, conditions are dry enough for fires.

They're keeping an eye on areas in the Moshannon State Forest at several fire towers. Those towers stand at around 80 feet tall.

Forest rangers man the towers on days with a very high risk of fires.

Officials said those towers allow the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Forestry Bureau to spot fires quickly.
