Oil Spill Cause Traffic Delays In Centre County

Major traffic headaches in Centre County today as a fuel oil spill closes down Route 322. It happened early this morning, and at this hour, a portion of the roadway is still shut down, as the clean up operation continues.

Route 322 is one of the main arteries into the Centre region, and when it gets shut down, you do have major travel headaches. But, it wasn't just the travel tie-ups -- there were other worries in State College today. The odor of fuel oil still hangs in the air, and the clean up probably won't be complete until Tuesday's late evening hours.

Shortly after 5 this morning a fuel oil truck begin leaking its cargo near a Patton Township intersection at Waddle Road. The truck driver was unaware of the leak, until getting to Skytop. At that point, more than 1300 gallons of fuel was spilled, and Route 322 was quickly closed.
