Only on 6: PSU Trustee behind push for progress has questionable criminal past

By Gary Sinderson

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. —

According to out-of-state sources, court and county jail documents obtained by 6 News, a Penn State Board of Trustees member is dodging questions about his own alleged criminal past.

Outreach committee chairman Mark Dambly was recently named to the search committee for Penn State's next president and was involved with discussions about background checks at meetings inside the Penn Stater last week.

University officials said background checks are part of the recommendations already implanted in the wake of the Freeh report investigation into the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal.

According to court documents, Dambly was arrested in 1979 for a fight in a downtown parking garage while he was attending classes at University Park.

During the alleged brawl with three people, Dambly is accused of threatening to "beat their heads in."

Records obtained from the Centre County Jail show that Dambly signed in and spent five days behind bars.

When confronted about the allegations, Dambly told 6News he was "not aware" about a criminal past or serving jail time.
