Osterhout Street construction project on schedule, bypass could open this year

By Brittany Boyer

ELK COUNTY, Pa. —

The long awaited construction project for Osterhout Street in Ridgway is well under way.

Construction began in March and crews have been working daily to complete the project.

The nearly $3 million project is being worked on in Ridgway.

The project consists of total reconstruction and realignment of Osterhout Street and intersection improvements at Route 219 and Route 948.

Due to the ongoing construction traffic is required to navigate through town using Route 120 and Route 219.

Local leaders tell 6 News they are aware of the congestion the construction is causing downtown, but they assure residents it will be worth it in the end.

PennDOT officials told 6 News that the project is on schedule.  Officials said that paving may be complete in the coming weeks.

PennDOT officials said if the weather cooperates the road may be open to traffic late this year.

The entire project which also includes widening of the road, curb improvements and installing new traffic signals is expected to be complete October 2013.
