Pa. Superior Court upholds sentences in 2 Centre Co. slaying cases

By WJAC Web Staff

The Pennsylvania Superior Court ruled this week on sentencing appeals made in two separate Centre County cases.

The court upheld the life sentence handed to Ronald Heichel for his first-degree murder conviction in the August 2009 death of Samuel Boob. Heichel was found guilty of conspiring with Boob's wife, Mirinda, to kill him outside of his home. Just recently, Mirinda Boob's conviction was also affirmed.

The superior court also upheld the 2 1/2 to 5-year sentence given to Troy Tierney, who was convicted of involuntary manslaughter for the shooting death of his girlfriend in November 2009.

The shooting happened when Tierney and the victim, Rachael Perryman, were hunting after dark.

The Centre County District Attorney said a reduction in Tierney's sentence would have downgraded the seriousness of the crime.
