Pair of brazen burglars charged in Summerhill break-ins

By Melanie Gillespie

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. —

New developments in the string of burglaries that have been happening throughout Cambria County.

The pair arrested in the string of burglaries in Southern and Central Cambria County were slapped with more charges by police Wednesday in a pair of burglaries in Summerhill Township.

Jeremy Hughes and Gregory Swinger are already charged in Richland Township, but the two were formally charged on a slew of charges including tow counts of burglary and receiving stolen property in Summerhill Township.

The criminal complaint said the burglaries in Summerhill stemmed from an investigation in Stonycreek Township. Police said these young men were bold enough to commit daytime robberies by stealing electronics, jewelry and cash. About six neighboring townships were targeted, and police said Swinger and Hughes admitted to stealing a number of things inside the homes and then sold them in rural areas of the county.

While these men are in custody, Portage Borough is still looking into a rash of robberies using a pry bar to break into area businesses. The police chief told us the recent arrests they made with Mary Ramirez and a 16-year-old boy are not connected to the break-ins involving the pry bar. Randall Motors and Portage Beverage were among some of the businesses that police said were robbed last week. 6 News made calls to the Portage Borough Police Department, but they said the rash of robberies is still under investigation.
