Parents, Community Members Schedule Public Meeting To Support New Catholic High School

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. —

A group of Centre County parents and other community members are trying to build momentum to bring a new Catholic high school to the area. The group is trying to raise money and gain support for the idea, which has been talked about for a number of years.

Group members will try to solicit $5 million in commitments for the project and has already retained an architect to design it. Three potential sites are being considered with the most likely pick being near Innovation Park off Interstate 99 in College Township.

The project hinges on how much financial support the group can get, so members are to be holding a meeting Thursday at the Knights of Columbus off Stratford Drive in State College to find out how much backing they will be able to get.

A spokesman with the Altoona-Johnstown Diocese said the diocese supports the idea for the the project. The diocese currently has three high schools in its eight county area: Bishop Guilfoyle in Altoona; Bishop McCort in Johnstown; and Bishop Carroll in Ebensburg.
