Parents Question Safety Of Intersection In Somerset Co.

QUEMAHONING TOWNSHIP, Pa. —

Parents called the WJAC-TV newsroom with concerns of an intersection in Quemahoning Township after two school bus crashes in May.

State police said the Route 30 and Second Street intersection statistically hasn't been a problem area.

Trooper Robert Boyle said even though that intersection hasn't had many crashes, Route 30 in general has had many serious crashes.

That's why years ago the route was named a Safety Corridor Highway.

Boyle said they patrol the area regularly and fines are doubled.

Becky Smith, a parent, said she took her daughter off of the bus after these school bus incidents because she's concerned for her daughter's safety.

Smith said her daughter won't be taking the bus until something is done with the intersection, whether it be a change in speed limit or a traffic light is put in.
