Pedestrian killed in Sunday night crash

By Maria Miller

CRESSON TOWNSHIP, Pa. —

The remnants of a Sunday night accident could still be seen along the side of the road on Monday; gravel tracks and police markings, even the victim's shoes. A witness of that deadly pedestrian versus car accident told 6 News it's something he won't soon forget.

The accident happened around 10 Sunday night in Cresson Township, Cambria County. Police said that Ryan Repko, 33, was hit by a car at the intersection of Admiral Peary Highway and Fifth Street. He was taken to Altoona Hospital but was later pronounced dead.

Police have not released many details about the crash but 6 News talked with a neighbor who said he heard the crash and even tried to help.

"I [came] out onto the front porch and the lady had just gotten out of her car and was yelling for help, so I came down to check on her and see what had happened," said the neighbor. "She thought she had hit somebody and I looked down beside the road and I [saw] the guy laying there on his back. I went down and check on him and it wasn't too good... It was pretty bad."

The speed limit on that stretch of highway is only 35 miles per hour. Police have not released the name of that driver nor have they said whether she'll be charged.
