Penn State Fans Upset About TV Coverage

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. —

If you're a Comcast, Time Warner, or Atlantic Broadband cable subscriber, you might be blacked out for Penn State games this year. The Big 10 Network is covering the home opener and a couple other games this season, but local cable companies refuse to carry the network.

Season ticket holders are upset about the possibility of missing out on a Big 10 Conference road game for Penn State, but if they don't mind leaving their house, they're still in luck. Many local restaurants and bars have satellite TV, and managers say this situation will only help their businesses. But could this hurt the launching of the Big 10 Network?

"I don't think it diminishes the network. If you look at the network, this is what we built, and we're going to be here for 20 years. This network is going to survive this distribution issue right now," Big 10 Network President Mark Sullivan told Channel 6 News. "It's going to be something that people are going to grow up watching and be fond of, and it will become one of their favorite networks if you're a Big 10 fan."

The network launches Thursday night at 8 p.m. It's set to air the Penn State vs. Florida International game, which starts at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
