Penn State to Keep Library

By Rich Wisniewski

PENN STATE, Pa —

Even though the statue of Joe Paterno has been removed, Penn State University has continued to honor the Paterno name by keeping his name on the library across campus.

In the 1980's Paterno said, a great university needs a great library and over time Sue and Joe Paterno rallied to raise enough money for a new five story library to be added on to the original Pattee Library on the University Campus.

"Well they should keep his name on the library, how many millions of dollars does he have to give?" said Vincent Tedesko, a lifelong Penn State fan.

Since the 22 million dollar addition of the library, the Paterno's have continued to donate to the library, helping students keep up with their academic success.

"Since I came here, he [Paterno] was all about learning and reading and making sure students succeed...and to me, that's the a library is all about," said one Penn State Alum.

Penn State President Rodney Erickson says that keeping Paterno's name on the library, represents what he did academically for the school. But many others feel it's hypocritical to remove the statue, but keep the name on the library.
