PennDOT inspects equipment, ready for winter weather

By Brittany Boyer

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Pa. —

The leaves may still be changing, but that isn't stopping the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation from preparing for the upcoming winter season.

On Wednesday morning, all of PennDOT's equipment in Jefferson County was inspected in preparation for the winter months.

PennDOT officials admit, last winter was very mild.

"We still had some instances when we were about and about. We had to treat roadways, but for the most part we did have a light winter. We're not expecting that again this year, we're expecting to have more significant snow," said Jefferson County Maintenance Manager, Josh Clinger.

Clinger said right now 96 employees are employed with PennDOT in Jefferson County.

A number of the employees will be cleaning the roads with the 26 snow plow trucks this winter.

Clinger said, even though it might still be fall they're still preparing for snow. In fact, Clinger said PennDOT is tracking the possibility for snow next week.

"Next week in the forecast we have looked at, there is a little bit of snow, a chance for snow next week. With the inspection today it assures us that we will be ready for any weather that comes here," he said.
