Penndot, State Police Crack Down On Rt. 30 Aggressive Drivers

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. —

The 17-mile stretch of Route 30 from Jennerstown to Reels Corner was designated a Highway Safety Corridor because over the past five years there have been over 170 crashes, in which 15 people have died.

State police and Penndot are taking a two-pronged appraoch to try to save lives along this section of Route 30. Police will patrol the highway an extra 10 hours per week and speeding fines will be doubled.

Route 30 is known for coal truck traffic, but police say they're targeting everyone.

"Our focus will be on everybody. We want everybody to slow down and make sure they buckle up and pay particular attention to driving behaviors they are conducting with themselves," said Trooper John Matchik.

Penndot also announced Thursday they will adding a yellow blinking light at the intersection of Route 403 and Route 30, along with an extra turning lane. Both should be in place by next year.
