Pennsylvania Area Schools May Benefit From President's Stimulus Plan

Related

Pennsylvania schools are expected to benefit from President Barack Obama's stimulus package.

Tom Bradley, spokesperson for the Altoona Area School District, said the area's projected to receive $5.1 million.

School leaders don't want to get ahead of themselves, but as it stands, nearly $1 million would benefit Title 1 education .Bradley told WJACTV.com. Title 1 was cut dramatically in recent years during the Bush administration. Those funds would be used for remediation services to help children who have difficulty with reading or math.

Bradley said it is difficult for schools to keep up financially since there are so many special education requirements.

There's also $1.2 million earmarked for special needs children.

Finally, $3 million would be set aside for construction. However, guidelines have not been set.

There's no telling when schools would start seeing the money.

Congress passed the stimulus package Wednesday. The Senate is expected to address the plan Monday.
