Pennsylvania May Protect Waterway

The state may step in to protect a Somerset County waterway.

Earlier this year, a company wanted to use the Laurel Hill Creek to sell bottled water. That company was denied a permit.

Now the DEP is looking into whether the creek should be named a Critical Waterway. That will allow officials in Jefferson Township and nearby towns to develop ordinances to preserve Laurel Hill Creek.

The DEP expects to make a final decision by summer.
