Phone Issues Affecting Service For Man With Cerebral Palsy

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. —

Kevin Fenchak lives in a home owned by the Johnstown Housing Authority, and having cerebral palsy he relies on his landline phone to use LifeAlert. It is a system that allows people to call for emergencies.

On several occasions, his phone line has went down and it happened against Thursday night.

Before Thursday night, his caretaker Kim Demspey called Verizon, which said it's faulty lines inside the building.

Dempsey said the housing authority sent an electrician who was supposed to replace the faulty lines, but they didn't. Instead, they got the phone working until it crashed Thursday night.

Dempsey said Fenchak is worried an emergency will happen and he'll be helpless. Dempsey gave him an old cell phone but it won't be much help in emergencies.

The Johnstown Housing Authority is closed Friday for the holiday weekend and was unavailable to comment.
